Russagh Mills Hostel - Local Area

There are many great spots to visit in the locality and the rugged coastline offers much to explore, with Skibbereen and the surrounding villages offering fabulous places to eat and drink with seafood a speciality.

Just off the mainland are the islands of Sherkin & Cape Clear, they offer the visitor a truly other worldly experience with everything from lively nights with locals in the pubs to pure peace alone with nature and of course they are a real hotspot for wildlife. A regular ferry service runs from Baltimore and tickets can be purchased from the centre or on the boat.

Lough Hyne is also well worth a visit as it was the first marine reserve in Ireland and the only seawater lake of its kind in Europe. It is edged with native woodland, great for walks and we at the centre are privelaged to have permission from the reserve to canoe the lake with groups and individual to experience it's unique environment by day & night !
